You should regard your own life as the ultimate value, as an end in itself. Since you must also grant others the same Objective right to their lives, you should never initiate physical force or fraud against another person.

It is obvious that force is the opposite of freedom. Ayn Rand showed that force is also an enemy of rational thought:

1. The proper purpose of thought is action, in a continuum with more follow-up thinking resulting in further action.

2. If you, as an individual thinker, are constrained by force, the proper interaction of thought and action is irreparably broken.

3. Force thus threatens your survival, by breaking the chain of reason and action.
