From the time you were a baby your senses have been feeding you information about existence.

Obeying natural laws, your sense organs are acted on by stimulation and transmit messages to your nervous system and your brain. These messages reflect both the external stimulation and the nature of your sense organs.

You have no choice about receiving this sensory data. It is the given. You can't prove it from anything prior. It is VALID as a starting point.

Your sense data provides the raw material needed for any proof. The existence of your sense data is not in doubt and needs no proof.

Your sense perceptions include awareness of entities. These more complex forms of sense data Ayn Rand calls 'percepts'.
